Featured in WWG Magazine's Winter 2026 issue is Dr. Raphael Ikem, a distinguished Member of the West African College of Surgeons and a Specialty Registrar in Radiation and Clinical Oncology at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. With 17 years of medical experience, he currently serves as Chief Resident, leading a team of Residents and pioneering innovative treatment approaches for cancer patients. His work is driven by a deep passion for service and a commitment to excellence.
With over five years of focused oncology practice, Dr. Ikem blends medical expertise with genuine compassion, touching lives both physically and spiritually. A devoted Christian leader, he has served as a pastor for 17 years and is an active Resident Pastor at Savannah Grace Chapel, Lagos. He also brings over three years of experience as a fellowship leader, mentoring and guiding believers in their walk with God.
Dr. Ikem is passionate about reaching underserved communities, combining the Word of God with medical care through outreach initiatives organized by his ministry. His life’s work reflects a seamless integration of faith, medicine, and leadership. He is married to his beloved wife, Amanda, who is his companion and friend, and together they are blessed with two beautiful daughters, Giovanna and Karis.
For over 15 years, Dr. Raphael Ikem has served in two demanding yet deeply rewarding callings, as a Pastor and as a Radiation and Clinical Oncologist. In his role as Chief Resident at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, he leads a team of Residents, pioneers innovative treatment approaches for cancer patients, and mentors the next generation of medical professionals. His greatest reward? Seeing smiles return to the faces of those who once had little hope.
For Dr. Ikem, medicine and ministry are intertwined. Whether treating cancer or guiding a congregation, his mission is the same: to bring healing, offer guidance, and walk with people through moments that matter most. Guided by Colossians 3:23, he approaches every task “as unto the Lord,” holding fast to integrity even in situations that invite compromise.
He believes that believers carry the blessing of God into every sphere of life, which means their work should reflect excellence, character, and compassion. His commitment to biblical principles has not only inspired patients but also challenged colleagues and encouraged younger doctors to pursue oncology.

Dr. Ikem’s advice for aspiring doctors is clear: stay rooted in God’s presence, maintain balance in every area of life, and let His Word define your success.
