Are you grieving the loss of a loved one? Grief can feel overwhelming, but with the Lord’s help, comfort and joy can be restored.
All of us have faced the pain of losing someone we love. It is never easy. Yet, even in grief, God has a way of turning sorrow into joy. Scripture reminds us, “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning” (Psalm 30:5)

Naomi’s Story (Ruth 1–4)
Naomi left her home with her family because of a famine. Soon after, her husband died, and later her two sons passed away as well. Broken and bitter, she returned to her hometown with only one daughter-in-law, Ruth.
Naomi felt defeated and even asked her people to call her Mara, which means “bitter,” because she believed the Lord had dealt harshly with her. But God was not finished with her story.
Ruth worked in the fields of a wealthy man named Boaz. Boaz recognized Ruth’s loyalty and care for Naomi. Following Naomi’s instructions, Ruth humbly approached Boaz, and in time, he married her.
When Ruth gave birth to a son named Obed, Naomi’s heart was filled with joy. The child brought comfort and healing where grief had once ruled.
Naomi cared for him as her own, and her sorrow was replaced with gladness. This grandson became part of the lineage of Jesus Christ, a reminder that God’s plan is always greater than our pain.

From Grief to Joy
Naomi’s story reminds us that even in seasons of bitterness and loss, God is able to restore. He knows our tears, our shame, and our heartache. He can turn mourning into dancing and sorrow into singing.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Just as God had a plan for Naomi, He has a plan for you.
When grief feels too heavy, remember the promise of 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18: that those who sleep in Christ will rise again, and we will be reunited with them when the Lord returns. Our hope is not just for this life, but for eternity.

A Prayer for the Grieving
Heavenly Father, I pray that You comfort every heart from the loss of a loved one. Wipe away their tears and give them peace. Restore joy where there has been sorrow, and let them feel Your presence. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
