“He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3, KJV)

Writing this piece has been both healing and humbling. I wish I could say I have mastered receiving God’s love, but truthfully, I have not. I know that He loves me. That is not the problem. It is understanding why He loves me that often leaves me undone.

Have you ever felt that way? Have you ever wondered why a perfect, holy God would love someone like you, flawed, broken, or still healing from your past?

For many of us, the trials of life have left a bitter taste when it comes to love. Giving love and receiving it can feel like a game of cat and mouse. The walls we built for protection have become prisons, and love itself has become the prisoner.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, KJV)

Suddenly, we find ourselves exposed, stripped of our defenses, and confronted by a love that refuses to quit. God’s love pursues us even when we try to run. Like Moses, I have wrestled with feelings of unworthiness. When God first called Moses, he protested:

“O my Lord, I am not eloquent… but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.” (Exodus 4:10, KJV)

I understand that hesitation. I have questioned God, listing all the reasons I am not qualified for His love. I have said, “Why should You love me?

Here's God's response to Moses:

“Who hath made man’s mouth?... Have not I the LORD?” (Exodus 4:11, KJV)

His gentle yet powerful answer silences our excuses every time. Accepting God’s love is not about earning it. It is about receiving it.

7 Ways to Accept God's Love

1. Be Honest About Your Struggles

God can handle your honesty. Do not be afraid to admit that you struggle to feel loved or worthy of His affection. Apostle Paul understood this battle:“O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 7:24–25, KJV)

When we acknowledge our weakness, we make room for His strength.

2. See Yourself Through Christ

Jesus is the key that unlocks the prison of shame, guilt, and self-doubt. Through Him, we are made new and righteous before God.

When God looks at you, He does not see your past. He sees His Son.

3. Believe the Word, for Christ Is the Word

Faith begins with believing what God says about you.“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, KJV)

You are not an afterthought. Christ saw your worth and gave His life to prove it.

4. Trust God to Be a Good Father

Maybe your experience with love has left you wounded, but God is not like the people who hurt you.“But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ.” (Ephesians 2:4–5, KJV)

His fatherhood is rooted in mercy, not performance. You do not have to be perfect to be loved perfectly.

5. Get to Know His Unfailing Love

Spend time discovering the nature of God’s love.“The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to anger and filled with unfailing love.” (Psalm 103:8, NLT)

His love is patient. It does not give up on you.

6. See Him as the Father You Always Needed

God is not harsh, absent, or indifferent. He is tender, present, and deeply concerned about your life.“The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.” (Psalm 103:13, NLT)

Let Him re-father you and heal the places that human love could not reach.

7. Accept That You Are His Masterpiece

You were not a mistake. You were designed with purpose and intention.“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee.” (Jeremiah 1:5, KJV)

Before you doubted your worth, God called you His own.

It's Time to Surrender

Accepting God’s love is not a one-time event. It is a daily surrender. It is choosing to believe, again and again, that His love is greater than your past, stronger than your fears, and constant through every season.

So today, let His love in. Let Him heal the parts of you that have forgotten what love feels like.

What a love. What a God. What a good Father we have.
